i don’t think I’d characterize this as “hardware vs Internet”: certainly, Apple is opening up more avenues into the services area — but that’s a natural progression into long-term, stable revenue streams, and it’s clearly been a profitable move.

The Internet is merely the “wire”; it’s what you do with that wire that’s interesting. Finding “interesting” is something Apple does pretty well.
